This standard applies to a sealer for application to asbestos-containing materials to prevent release of asbestos fibres from the materials. This sealer is not suitable for highly friable materials (It is the responsibility of the user to determine whether the material is friable or highly friable as this standard is only intended to define the quality requirements for the sealer).
This standard provides guidance to the user when selecting a specific type and class of sealer as described in par. 3.1. It does not address concerns with any change in properties or characteristics of the material including fire resistance that could be attributed to the sealing process, nor does it address the decision of whether or not to use a sealer.
